Press Tour (Part Four): BroadwayWorld’s The Roundtable with Robert Bannon
The last interview on April 15 was with Robert Bannon for BroadwayWorld’s The Roundtable. This one was extra special because it was a Mother’s Day edition featuring both Scott and me.
Robert created such a warm, welcoming space for us to share our story. Like the other interviews, we talked about Scott’s journey from his early days in Arlington, Texas, where his musical spark was clear, to his coming out in high school, and his rise to fame with Pentatonix.
We discussed the importance of fostering creativity in children. I shared how we encouraged Scott’s passions through piano lessons, theater, and constant encouragement, which helped shape who he is today.
A large part of the conversation focused on his coming out, which was a theme in nearly all the interviews. Scott reflected on how meaningful it was to revisit these memories with me while working on the book. He loved seeing my enthusiasm—calling his friends, digging through old videos—to make sure we told his story with authenticity.
He also spoke about using his platform to promote LGBTQ+ acceptance, inspired by his own experience growing up without much representation. His words reinforced how important it is for young people to see themselves reflected in the world around them.
Robert’s thoughtful questions made the conversation both emotional and inspiring. It showcased our story of love, acceptance, and the unshakable bond we share.
Next time, I’ll share my April 17 interviews with Anthony Ramos from GLAAD and Bob Runkel from The DJ Bob Show.
